The Scala Claustralium of Guigo the ninth Prior of La Grande Chartreuse (c. 1188), is a classic when it comes to the monastic lectio divina. Already in the Middle Ages and then in the early modern period, the work was widely used. Guigo systematised this type of reading into a comprehensible way using the traditional scheme lectio - meditatio - oratio - contemplatio. Despite the vital importance of this writing, it previously in the notes to, unfortunately, have long been out of print book by Enzo Bianchi "you find only a newer German translation."
